ESU Takes Five Set Match From Shippensburg to Stay in PSAC East Playoff Hunt

Shippensburg, Pa. - The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take a five set win over Shippensburg. The Warriors stay in the race for one of the two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division playoff spots with the win heading into their final two league affairs. Heidi Johnston led the squad with her version of a triple double of 56 set assists, 11 kills and 14 digs.
ESU evens their season mark to 14-14 while improving to 5-3 in the Conferernce. The Warriors are now tied for third with Millersville in the East with the team's last two contests against the teams ahead of them in Kutztown (6-2) and West Chester (7-1). Shippensburg dropped to 4-27 on the season and 1-7 in the East.
Johnston hit an outstanding .611 for the match with 11 kills in 18 attempts without an error to go with her sixth 50-plus assist effort. Outside hitter April Mellott pounded 30 kills, 18 digs and five blocks while Lindsey Newmyer downed 15 kills and six blocks. Andrea Myers added 22 digs and 10 kills.
The Warriors will now have another week off before heading
to West Chester to face the Golden Rams on November 5th at 7:00 p.m.
