Pound Ball for Key Conference Win over Millersville
Myers Sets
ESU Digs Season Mark
October 22, 2002
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Senior Night turned out to be the inspiration the Warriors women's volleyball squad needed Tuesday evening. East Stroudsburg took care of Millersville in a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division match 3-1 by scores of 30-26, 30-26, 23-30 and 30-22.
Senior April Mellott pounded out 26 kills with a .404 hitting percentage but it was Andrea Myers who made her mark on the school record books. Myers broke the single season digs mark after recording 18 digs this evening to give her 504 on the year to shatter the old mark of 496 set by Saunya Darr in 1997.
The Warriors pull into a third place tie at 4-3 in the PSAC East with Millersville. ESU will need to win their final three Conference road matches at Shippensburg, West Chester and Kutztown to be assured of another playoff spot. ESU takes their mark to 13-14 for the season and the Mauraders go to 8-15.
Myers added three aces and eight kills to go with her record-setting 18 digs. Mellott laced 26 kills with five errors on 52 attempts for a .404 hitting percentage, 17 digs and two blocks. The team's third senior Heidi Johnston handed out 48 set assists with two aces. Junior Lindsey Newmyer recorded five blocks and seven kills while freshman Beth Walker dug 15 balls to go with six kills.
The Warriors will now be off until next Tuesday
when they play at Shippensburg.
