The ESU women's tennis team won one match in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
championships and captured its last three dual matches.
The Warriors, under new coach Brendon Travis, showed amazing improvement during the
season,
dropping a pair of 5-4 decisions and two other 6-3 matches, before breaking into the victory column. This
was the same team had won only a handful of matches and points over the last several years.
Travis had a young roster with four freshmen and no seniors.
Freshman Lindsay Arnold had the most wins with six while four other players, Kristin Brown, Becky Martin,
Marissa Piazza and Kelli McGinty all won five matches. Angie Casertano rounded out the line-up. The
doubles team of Brown and Arnold also won six matches
The Warriors upset West Chester, 5-4, in the PSAC tournament with Brown scoring the decisive fifth
point with a three-set win at second singles. Other ESU winners were Arnold, McGinty and Casertano in
singles and the doubles team of Piazza and Casertano.
The Golden Rams had beaten ESU in the same tourney, 5-1, last year.
