ESU's Melcer Doubles up West Chester for Women's Soccer Win
October 1, 2002
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Kate Melcer continued the upswing of the Warriors women's soccer squad Tuesday afternoon as she booted both goals in a 2-0 shutout over West Chester. The sophomore found the net two times in the opening half to guide the fourth-straight win to remain perfect at home and in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.
ESU took their mark to 4-6-1 and 3-0-1 in the PSAC with the win. It was the fourth win in a row and makes the team 4-1-1 in their last six after an 0-5 start of 2002. West Chester drops to 4-4-3 and 0-3-2 on the year.
Jaime Mitchell made a pass from the left side to the right post where Melcer knocked it home into the left corner for the first score of the day. Melcer then teamed with Charlene Conklin on the second tally. Conklin headed the ball from the left to right where Melcer found paydirt again.
Lindsay Vandergrift recorded her third shutout in three games and has allowed just a single goal in the last four. She had 10 saves in the match. Stroudsburg native Ryan Levine saved seven Warrior shots in goal for West Chester.
The women will be off until Saturday when they host Shippensburg University for a 12:00 noon start.
