ESU-Mansfield Women’s Basketball
EAST STROUDSBURG – Niki Cox scored a game-high 21 points as East Stroudsburg University avenged a previous loss earlier this season over Mansfield 61-57 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division women's basketball game Wednesday night.
The Warriors (7-14, 3-5 PSAC) were up by seven points, 19-12, midway through the first half. Mansfield answered back with a 13-1 run with free-throw shooting help from Lynelle Mosley and Jennifer Nichols, sending the Mountaineers into halftime with a 30-20 lead.
Down by 14 midway through the second half, the Warriors rallied back behind a huge momentum shift to tie the game up 54-54 with 2:24 left in the half.
Cox made four free-throws in a row to put the Warriors ahead 60-57. Sophomore Shelly Garlach made a key steal with only 16 seconds left in the game as East Stroudsburg took control in the final seconds.
Junior Tiffany Barnes scored the only double-double in the game for the Warriors with 12 points and ten rebounds. Alison Tagliaferri and Nichols were the leading scorers for Mansfield with 16 and 11 points each.
Mansfield fell to 2-6 in the conference, 9-13 overall.
