Warriors Sweep Indoor Track & Field Opener

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg Warriors sweep two conference foes to open their indoor track & field season. ESU won the tri-meet over Millersville and Mansfield on Saturday evening. The women scored 133 points to Millersville (114.5) and Mansfield (55.5) while the men totaled 124.5 points with Millersville at 112.5 and Mansfield 72.

The Warrior men captured seven first places finishes on the night. Mark Stinson and Mike Newhard both came away with two top finishes apiece. Stinson ran his way to first in the 300-meter event (36.08) and jumped to the top spot in the long jump of 22’5”. Newhard completed the 55-meter hurdles in 8.12 and the high jump at 6’8”.

Doug Joseph took the 55-meter event in 6.69, Bryan O’Neill came away with the pentathlon title with 2,287 points and Doug Springer in the pole vault (14’0”).

ESU was able to take away eight top places in the winning effort for the women including two relays. Tawny Youtz was the big performer of the evening with two individual first places in the 55 meters (7.45), 300 meters (44.41) and part of one of the 4x400 relay (4:15.62) with Diane Portzline, Jillian Kosielecki and Jackie Babbini.

Kosielecki and Babbini also had their own event titles. Kosielecki won the 500 meters (1:20.61) and Babbini ran across the finish first in the 55-meter hurdles (9.50).

In the field events, Beck Fib in the long jump (16’7”) and Amy Donovan for the triple jump (26’5 ½”) had the two other individual titles. The final first came from the 4x800-meter relay of Cara Senese, Kelly Brennan, Liz Stevens and Kristin Mullen in 10:39.30.

The two indoor track & field teams will next compete at the Susquehanna Invitational on January 25th.
