Warrior Track & Field Take Seconds at Kutztown Quad Meet

Kutztown, Pa. The Warrior track and field squads finished second at the Kutztown Quad meet Friday. East Stroudsburg captured six top placings for the women and five by the men. Mike Newhard and Mark Stinson were the only double first place winners on the day.
The Warrior men scored 155 points behind Kutztowns 174 tallies while West Chester (98) and Cheyney (82) were third and fourth. ESU was second in the women at 148 points with the Golden Bears winning with 229 points with West Chester at 145 and Cheyney six.
Tawny Youtz had a solid day in the sprints for ESU with a first in the 200 (25.94) and runner-up in the 400 (59.06). Amy Donovan won the triple jump at 37-0 and second in the high jump of 5-2.
The women finished one-two in the javelin with Christa Sandvig for the top spot (133-5) and Julie Smith second (122-1). Kristin Mullin and Becky Fitz took first in the 1500 (4:55.05) and long jump (16-9). Jill Koscielecki was the other first place for the ESU women in the 400 hurdles at 1:03.12. Jane Grendel was second in the 5000 meters (19:25.28) as well as the 4x400 relay (4:09.45).
Newhard and Stinson both had two first places for the Warrior men. Both were part of the winning 4x100 relay team in 42.22 along with Mike Glover and Doug Joseph. Newhard and Brad Fees tied in the high jump at 6-8 while Stinson took the 400 hurdles (54.65).
Dan Gale and Doug Springer shined in other field events. Gale won the javelin at 191-0 and Springer pole vaulted to a win at 14-6. The teams 4x400 relay was second at 3:28.72.
The two teams will now move onto the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships next Thursday to Saturday, May 8-10, on the campus of Lock Haven University.
