and Newhard Guides ESU at Track & Field PSACs
Warrior Women
Finish Strong Third and Men Sixth

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Mike Newhard and Natasha Jarrett guided the strong showing for the East Stroudsburg indoor track and field squads at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet on Sunday. Jarrett, Newhard and the women's 4x400 relay set Conferences records on the way to first place finishes. Jarrett was named the PSAC Women's Outstanding Track Athlete for the championships. In the team standings, the Warrior women finished a strong third with 78 points while the men totaled 55 for sixth.
Women
Jarrett captured a PSAC record-setting first in the 55 meter dash in 7.23 on
her way and another first place in the 200 meters (25.84) on her way to being
selected as the PSAC Women's Outstanding Track athlete. She also claimed a fourth
place in the shot put (38-8).
Tawny Youtz had a spectacular day of her own. Youtz took away a second in the 55 meter (7.29), third in the 200 meters (26.22) and was part of the winning 4x400 meter relay team which won the last event of the meet. Youtz ran the decisive anchor leg of the relay in a split of 57.8 seconds while her teammates of Jackie Babbini (60.6), Jillian Koscielecki (60.8) and Kristin Mullin (59.2) paced the first three legs for a record time of 3:58.59.
Mullin ran to a third place in the 800 meters in 2:18.91 which set another PSAC indoor record while Koscielecki was fifth in the 400 meters (59.63).
Becky Fitz won her second fourth place of the championships with a fourth place in the long jump (17-6 ¼). Jayme Ferraro hurdled to a fifth place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.61) to round out the Warriors place-winners.
As a team, the women had an impressive showing as they improved to third with 78 points, after finishing seventh last year, just a point behind runner up Kutztown at 79. Lock Haven won the meet for the second year in a row with 110.33 points.
Men
Mike Newhard
was the top performer for the ESU men. He broke his own Koehler Fieldhouse mark
and set a new PSAC record with a high jump of 6-10 ½ . Newhard was also
part of the fifth place 4x400 meter relay along with Steve Denninger, Matt Bevan
and Mark Stinson who ran in 3:27.95.
Brad Fees and Doug Springer came away with second place finishes. Fees was second to Newhard in the high jump in 6-8 ½ while Springer vault 15-1 in the pole vault.
Mark Stinson was a double place-winner with a third in the long jump (22-8 ¼) and sixth in the 200 meters (22.86). Darryl Brown ran his way to two scoring finishes. Brown was fourth in the mile (4:22.37) and sixth in the 3000 meters (8:52.04).
Mike Loenser bettered Brown with a fifth in the 3000 meters (8:48.32) while Doug Joseph pulled out a fourth in the 55 meter dash (6.54).
The Warrior men took sixth
with 55 points and only 1.50 tallies behind fifth place Slippery Rock while Lock
Haven won the team standings with 110 points.
