Mike Terwilliger

Offensive Coordinator 24th Year

East Stroudsburg `78 - Long-time assistant coach Mike Terwilliger will run East Stroudsburg's offense this season as the team's new offensive coordinator. He replaces 11-year coach Jim Pry, who is now the quarterbacks coach at D uke.

Terwilliger has coached the quarterbacks since his graduation from ESU in 1978. He also has served as the staff's recruiting coordinator and internal operations coordinator.

"I've been involved in scoring points for ESU since 1974 - that's not changing," he said. "I have the title now which is nice, but we're basically going to do the same things we've done in the past because they've been successful.

"We're going to go after people and force defenses to defend the entire field against both our running game and our passing. It's going to be exciting," he continued.

Led Team to Two Unbeaten Seasons

Terwilliger was one of the finest quarterbacks in the school’s history, lead-ing the Warriors to two undefeated seasons and two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference titles in four years as a starter from 1974 to 1977. He was i nducted into the ESU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

The new offensive coordinator has tutored all his successors at the position. It was his teaching which helped such stellar quarterbacks as NCAA record-setter Damian Poalucci, James Franklin, Bret Comp and Andy Baranek set school pa ssing records.

As a player and an assistant over the last 27 years, Terwilliger has been involved with every game in which Denny Douds has been head coach.

It was 1974 when the then 18-year-old youngster came to the Poconos as an all-star high school quarterback out of Adamstown, Pa.

Taking over as a starter early in his freshman year, he guided the Warriors to a 30-4-1 record over four seasons. This included unbeaten records of 10-0 in 1975 and 9-0-1 in 1976.

Two-Time All-PSAC Player

He earned All-Conference first team honors twice and Associated Press Little All-America honors once. He passed for 3,799 career yards and 33 touchdowns.

Terwilliger and his wife, Kim, have a son, Jimmy, 17, who will be a senior quarterback at East Stroudsburg High School this season, and two daughters, Kelly, 15, and Jackie, 12. The Terwilligers live in East Stroudsburg.
