Warriors Finish Season with Victory over Southampton

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Warriors men’s volleyball team wrapped up their 2003 season with an impressive win over Southampton College Saturday afternoon. After dropping the opening game 22-30, East Stroudsburg stormed back to take the next three games 30-22, 30-19, 30-24. Seniors Mike Messinger and Jarrett Merkel guided the winning effort with 29 kills and 12 blocks combined.

ESU (8-15) saw Messinger individually down 16 kills, four aces, six digs and four blocks in his final game. Merkel added 13 kills, and eight blocks. Andy Wimmer chipped in 13 kills of his own and three blocks. The team’s other two seniors in Dustin Wood (seven kills and seven digs) and Josh Farmer (an assist and two digs) went out on winning notes for ESU. The victory gave the Warriors the season sweep over Southampton who holds a mark of 21-9.
