Gayle Kicks in Early Second Half Goal for ESU Victory
October 1, 2002
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - In what was the Warriors toughest matchup of the season, freshman Wesley Gayle kicked in the winning goal to give East Stroudsburg the 2-1 win over West Chester in men's soccer and continue the team's unbeaten run in 2002.
Gayle connected on a pass from Mike Lotocki at 53:57 to take the Warriors to a perfect 8-0 on the season and more importantly 2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. The Golden Rams slide to 6-3-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in the league.
West Chester's Jon McGlone netted the first tally of the match at 20:03 on a pass off the foot of Ryan Sakkas. The Golden Rams maintained their 1-0 lead for the next 22 minuts of play.
Sophomore John King booted on Sean Stewart's pass at 42:25 to send the contest to the intermission as a tie 1-1.
Bill Sterner stopped a season-high seven shots in goal for the Warriors while Chris Byars saved four.
ESU will next make up their ESU-Kiwanis Classic Championship, which was postponed from Sunday September 15th against Felician College. The start will be at 3:00 p.m. in Elier-Martin Stadium.
