Sheska's 300th-Win Comes in School Record Setting Fashion Over Columbia Union

September 25, 2002

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The only way to reach a coaching milestone is in royal fashion and the Warriors gave Head Coach Jerry Sheska that type of send off. East Stroudsburg netted a school record for goals in their 16-1 thumping of Columbia Union to give Sheska his career 300th coaching victory in men's soccer at the University.

The seventh-ranked ESU team improved to 6-0 on the season and made Sheska the fourth NCAA Division II coach to ever reach the 300-win plateau. He stands as the coach with the highest winning percentage of .718 of any of the other three coaches to hit the 300 mark.

The 16 goals scored marks the second time this year the squad has broken the previous school record for goals in a game. The Warriors netted 13 tallies in the first day of the Kiwanis-ESU Classic over Pitt-Johnstown (13-1 final).

After Columbia Union (0-7) netted the first goal four minutes into the game, the Warriors rattled off eight-straight scores for an 8-1 halftime lead. Jorge Chapoy, Roy Thompson and Joey Piscopo each had two goals in the half to break it wide open.

The team breezed home from the half with another eight scores in the latter stanza. Roy Thompson led the charge with three goals and an two assists while Chapoy fired three goals and an assist. Piscopo, Sean Stewart and Thompson each had a pair of goals and two assists.

ESU will next host California (Pa.) this Sunday at 12 noon at Eiler-Martin stadium to open PSAC action.
