East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Warriors dominated the second half of play to take home a key Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's soccer win 6-1 over Lock Haven. After leading only 1-0 at the intermission, East Stroudsburg found the net three times in the first 20 minutes of the second stanza with Jorge Chapoy adding his second goal and assisting on the team's third to guide the surge. The win gives ESU their 20th consecutive season with at least 10 wins starting back in the 1983 season.
ESU improves to 3-1-1 in the PSAC and only a single point behind Conference leader, Millersville, who sits at 3-1-2. The Warriors take their mark to 10-1-1 and get back into the win column after falling last Saturday, 3-2 in double overtime to Shippensburg and tying Millersville, 0-0 after two overtimes. Lock Haven, a traditional power in the PSAC, drops to 6-8-1 and 0-4-1 in league action.
Chapoy broke a scoreless time at 19:20 off a pass from Mike Lotocki to take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime. The junior from Monclova, Mexico netted his second goal at 53:24 in the second half and then assisted on Wesley Gayle's tally to put the Warriors ahead 3-0 at 62:42 mark.
All-American Sean Stewart, Kamar Samuels and freshman Ryan Love (Dallas, Pa.) each added goals over the next 20 minutes for a 6-0 lead.
The Bald Eagles punched in their lone goal from Bill Dovas at 86:14 for the final of 6-1.
ESU goalie Bill Sterner stopped for shots and Pete Llewllyn came on in relief for three saves of his own. Paul Maguire had six saves for Lock Haven.
The Warriors will take to the road on Wednesday and travel to Goldey Beacom College for a 3:00 p.m. match.
