East Stroudsburg Welcomes Jeff Wilson Back to Fold as Head Men's Basketball Coach
August 8, 2002
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - East Stroudsburg University welcomes a familiar face to lead the Warriors' men's basketball program. Jeff Wilson, a former Warrior player and coach, has agreed to take the helm at ESU announced this afternoon. Wilson heads back to East Stroudsburg after serving as Associate Head Basketball Coach at Lehigh University since April of 1996.
He replaces Mike Power, who guided the Warriors the past three seasons before resigning to take a sales position outside the University.
"I am excited to about Jeff Wilson's enthusiasm and experience that he will bring to Warrior athletics as our Head Men's Basketball Coach. Jeff has the Division I and II experiences to draw upon and is already familiar with the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) and most importantly an ESU alum who played basketball for us," explains ESU Athletic Director Dr. Joy Richman.
Wilson was responsible for coordinating the recruiting and scouting while at Lehigh. He spent six seasons with the Mountain Hawks' program after leaving ESU with former Warrior Head Coach Sal Mentesana in April of 1996.
He spent 10 years with the Warrior basketball program from May, 1987 through April, 1996 as the Associate Head Basketball Coach. While working with the Warriors, Wilson helped the team to four PSAC playoffs appearances (1990, 91, 92 and 96) including a Conference title (1990), East Division title (1992) and three Final Four appearances (1990, 91 and 92).
"I feel it will be very easy for him to package and sell Warrior athletics as he has been a part as a student athlete and as a coach," added Richman.
During his previous time at ESU, Wilson also served as Assistant Director of Summer Camps/Conferences, Assistant Athletic Director and Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach.
Wilson was a four-year letterman for the Warriors on the hard court. He was named Team Captain for the 1985-86 campaign and received the Coaches Award his last two years.
The native of Octorara earned a B.S. in Health and Physical Education in May, 1986 and Master's of Education in Health and Physical Education in July, 1992 both from ESU.
