LACROSSE (6-10)
The one-two scoring punch of first home Michelle Cottiers and attack wing Antonia Giannopoulos and
the play of freshman center Leah Quigley were the strong points for the 2002 ESU women's lacrosse team.
Cottiers scored 56 goals, tied for second most in the school's history, and added 13 assists for
69 points. She matched the total of 56 goals set by Kristin Restivo as a junior in 1999. Restivo holds
the school record of 72 goals set in 2000.
The junior from Suffern, N.Y. had a team season-high seven goals in a win over IUP and had six
goals apiece in losses to nationally-ranked Gannon and C.W. Post. She made the All-PSAC first team and
the ECAC Division II second team.
Giannopoulos added 43 goals, scoring in every game for the second straight year, and 26 assists,
third best ever at the school. She tallied five goals apiece in three different games.
The junior from Wallingford, Pa. was selected on the Brine Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse
Coaches' Association-US Lacrosse Division II All-America second team as one of the top 32 players in the
nation. She also made the All-PSAC second team for the second consecutive year.
Quigley was named the PSAC Rookie of the Year and also was chosen on the All-Conference and the
ECAC Division II first teams. The freshman from Lansdale, Pa. scored 25 goals and made 14 assists.
Another freshman, second Julie Dugan also was a top scorer with 26 goals and eight assists for 34
points while junior attack wing Meghan Laube added 21 goals and five assists for 26 points and third home
Lynne Nester 11 goals and 11 assists for 23 points.
Junior defense wing Morgan Prosser was the most consistent defender and was chosen on the
All-PSAC
second team. A pair of seniors, defense wing Linda Zavitsky and cover point Dina Young both provided
experience for the defense.
Other starters were third man Nicole Kocis and freshman point Katylyn Paul. Three-year starting
goalie Kelly Wagner was an All-PSAC second team selection after giving up 12.15 goals per game with a 48
percent save average.
The team posted a 6-10 record which included two one-point losses to Millersville, 13-12, and
Gannon, 14-13.
