There has been improvement every year in the ESU swimming program under the direction of Lisa Pizzuto. Last season, the Warriors gained their best conference individual and relay finishes in more than a decade.

This is Pizzuto's seventh year on the ESU campus. She was hired in September, 1994 to organize the reinstituted program and to recruit student-athletes. Pizzuto was the assistant coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Union College in 1993-94. She helped both teams to top-ten finishes in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

Pizzuto, who grew up in Yonkers, N.Y., had been a four-year swimmer at Union, competing in the butterfly, backstroke and distance freestyle events. She was captain of the Dutchwomen's 1990 team which won the New York title.

After graduation, she worked one year as an assistant coach at the University of Albany. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Union and a Master of Art degree in Studio Art from Albany. She received a Master of Sport Science, Sport Coaching degree from the United States Sport Academy in 1994.

Mary Winter

Assistant Coach

Long-time swimming participant Mary Winter begins her third year on the ESU coaching staff. She swam competitively from the age of four. She qualified for district, state and national championships as a high school swimmer in Illinois.

Winter swam at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Advertising. She is a member of the Stroudsburg YMCA masters' swimming team.

She has two daughters, Candace, 12, and Karen, 9. She is a volunteer for many community organizations including the Girl Scouts of Northeast Pennsylvania.
