Hippman Goal Gives Warriors ECAC Field Hockey Championship in Overtime
McCracken Gains Most Outstanding Player Honors

Easton, Mass. - Steph Hippman blasted the game-winning goal to give the East Stroudsburg Warriors the 2002 ECAC Division II Field Hockey Championship 3-2 in overtime. The Warriors tied the game at 2-2 on Joelle Lussi's tally at 19:08 in the first half before Hippman ended the Championship only 2:12 into the extra period for the victory. Senior Shannon McCracken received the Most Outstanding Player award.

The seventh-ranked Warriors finished their season 14-8 for their third season in a row with at least 14 wins. Ninth-ranked Stonehill completes their year at 12-7.

Both teams came out smoking in less than 10 minutes of the contest. The Chieftains put a tally on the board first at 9:10 with ESU following three minutes later with from Steph Fink.

Stonehill retook the lead 2-1 at 17:24 before Lussi tied the game at 19:08, which is where things stood, 2-2, at the half. The second 35-minute half was scoreless to send the Championship into overtime.

Hippman took a pass from Sara Gorman to take the crown only 2:19 into the 15-minute extra period. The ECAC title is the Warriors' first since 1996 when they defeated Bentley College, 1-0.

ESU's Kelly Wagner blocked three Chieftain shots in goal while Cindy Pultz recorded four saves. The Warriors outshot Stonehill 12-5 and dominated on penalty corners 20-6.
