ESU Warriors Beat Nationally Ranked IUP

October 12, 2002

Indiana, Pa. - The ESU Warrior blanked Indiana University of Pennsylvania, ranked 9th in the nation, 3-0 Saturday afternoon. This is the fourth straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference shut out win for the Warriors, out scoring their opponents 12-0.

ESU is now 10-5 overall for the season and 5-1 in PSAC play. The first goal was scored with 7:15 remaining in the first period by Joelle Lussi, assisted by Shannon McCracken. The next goal came off the stick of Antonia Giannopoulos, unassisted with 1:18 remaining in the first period. The final goal of the shutout was off a penalty corner by Kathy Martin from the stick of Sara Gorman with 2:12 remaining in the second period.

The strong Warrior defense had a defensive save from Becca Henderson. Goalie Kelly Wagner recorded 5 saves in the shutout. IUP goalie Monica Kling had 6 saves.

The Warriors will travel to Shippensburg University on Wednesday for a rematch of last year's PSAC Semi-Finals in which ESU prevailed 2-1.
