Hippman Slaps Penalty Stroke into Cage for ESU Field Hockey Win Over Lock Haven
September 29, 2002
East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Steph Hippman slapped a hard shot past the Lock Haven goalie on a penalty stroke to give East Stroudsburg University the 1-0 overtime victory over the second-ranked Bald Eagles. The win stops the Warriors' three-game skid and puts them right back in the thick of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings.
ESU improves to 2-1 in the Conference and 7-4 overall while Lock Haven suffers their first loss to a Division II opponent falling to 8-2 and 2-1 in the PSAC.
After a scoreless 70 minutes of regulation, ESU was awarded a penalty stroke when a Bald Eagle defender took a Warrior down from behind. Hippman stepped up and put the game-winner in for the 1-0 overtime victory.
In goal, Kelly Wagner stopped 13 Lock Haven shots in the shutout while Melissa Stubblefield had five saves on the afternoon.
ESU will host another PSAC foe in Millersville Wednesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. at Whitenight Field.
