ESU Loses in Double Overtime to Shepherd, 33-27

Shepherdstown, Va. - Damian Beane scored on a 15-yard run in the second overtime as Shepherd knocked off East Stroudsburg, 33-27, in the longest game in ESU history.

East Stroudsburg (1-1) took a 13-0 lead deep into the second quarter behind a Steve Bellosi six-yard run and two J.D. Stern field goals (45 and 27 yards). But Shepherd (1-1) scored 13 points in the final 5:48 of the half to knot the score at 13 as the team headed to the locker rooms.

After a scoreless third quarter, ESU took a 20-13 lead on a one-yard run by Stewart Ford with 12:51 to play. The lead was short-lived, however, as Beane scored from one yard out to even the score at 20 with 7:23 left in regulation.

On the first play in overtime, Jason Klush hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bellosi to give the Warriors a 27-20 lead. Shepherd responded with a six-yard touchdown pass from Matt Davis to Jason Dirting.

ESU failed to score in the second overtime with Stern missing a 40-yard field goal attempt. The Rams struck quickly with Davis completing a pass to Terence Robinson to the 15-yard line and Beane then circling left end for the winning touchdown.

The Warriors' defense held Beane, a first team All-America selection in 1998, to 88 yards in 32 carries and broke his streak of 14 straight 100-yard games. ESU suffers hard loss against Kutztown, 24-10

KUTZTOWN - Kutztown scored two touchdowns within 27 seconds in the last two minutes of the first half, both following interceptions, and went on to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 24-10, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division football game Saturday.

Quarterback Josh Warren passed 11 yards to wide receiver T.J. Stanford for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:14 remaining in the half. He rolled to the right, was almost caught at the sidelines before finding Stanford in the back of the end zone.

The Golden Bears had taken possession on cornerback Steve Windsor's interception and 32-yard return to the ESU 48-yard line. They moved into score in ten plays with the big play, Warren's 12-yard scramble around left end on a fourth-and four play from the ESU 31.

ESU's points came on J.D. Stern's 22-yard field goal in the first quarter and Stewart Ford's one-yard run in the third quarter. Both followed fumble recoveries by cornerback Brian Holcovic.

The top statistics of the game for the Warriors was the punting of Hostetter, who averaged 42 yards on eight punts including a 50-yarder.

Holcovic led the Warriors in tackles with 11 with linebacker J.D. Granger making ten and end Dan Creasy nine.
