The ESU men's volleyball team will play host to Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association opponent Harvard Saturday in a 1 p.m. match in the Koehler Fieldhouse.

Forward Juwan Justice (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored 23 points and center Jon Kelley (Fr., West Chester, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds, but the Warriors bowed to Mansfield, 86-84, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division game.
Justice made 9 of 13 shots from the floor, including 2 of 5 3-pointers, and added 3 of 4 free throws. He also grabbed eight rebounds and had four assists. Kelley had five offensive boards and six defensive and scored four points.
Guard Wayne Bishop (Fr., Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) contributed 17 points, including three 3-pointers; guard Gabe Crowley (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) 15 points and forward Shahad Abdur-Rahkman (So., Allentown, Pa./William Allen) 13 points.
Later in the week, all four players again scored in double figures in a 76-56 loss to Millersville, but the highest production was Rahkman's 11 points. Justice, Bishop and Crowley each scored ten points. Kelley pulled down a team-high five rebounds.

Opposite hitter Mike Messinger (Jr., Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and middle blocker Tom Shaver (Sr., Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) both had big hitting games as the Warriors beat Vassar, 3-0, for their first Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division win over the season.
Messinger put down 16 kills in 20 attempts with only three errors for a .650 hitting average while Shaver made 11 kills in 14 swings with only two errors for .643 hitting mark. Messinger added a team-high six digs while Shaver had five blocks. Setter Chris James (Jr., Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manilus) made 45 assists.
Earlier in the week, the Warriors bowed to New York University, 3-1. Outside hitter Jason Hartzel (Sr., Souderton, Pa./Souderton) was the team leader with 17 kills while Shaver had the best hitting average at .294 on ten kills in 17 tries with five errors.

Freshmen Heather Wolfe (Fr., York Haven, Pa./Red Land) and Vanessa Kraft (Fr., Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) both turned in two strong performances as the Warriors split a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division games.
Wolfe, a 5-6 guard, played 24 minutes, scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and made two assists in a 70-61 win over Mansfield. Kraft, a 6-0 center, tallied ten points, making all four of his field goal attempts and sinking two free throws in only six minutes of action against the Mounties.
Later in the week in a 68-51 loss to Millersville, Wolfe had another fine all-around performance with nine points, eight rebounds and four assists in 29 minutes of action. Kraft was in double figures again with ten points, making five of eight floor shots, in 25 minutes.
Forward Pam Helt (Jr., Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) was the team's leading scorer in the Mansfield game with 16 points, her second high mark of the season. Forward Kelly Hutchison (Sr., Reading, Pa./Exeter) had a double-double against Millersville with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Warriors stayed in contention for almost 30 minutes against the highly-favored 18-3 Millersville team, trailing by only six points, 49-43, before the Marauders broke it open.

Brad Kleckner (141, Jr., Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) and Marc Bauknecht (285, Sr., Cheshire, Ct./Holy Cross) each won twice as the Warriors split a pair of matches against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponents last week.
Kleckner extended his dual match winning streak to seven straight by beating Adam Castner of Bloomsburg, 17-10, and winning by injury default over Mark Mentzer of Shippensburg in 6:53 in a match he was leading, 8-2, at the time. He battled off his back to come back against Castner after being caught for a five-point move in the first period to trail, 6-2. He then scored five takedowns and a three-point near fall and just missed a major decision. He is now 17-9.
Bauknecht made it four dual match wins in a row with victories over Pat Spirelli of Bloomsburg, 5-1, and Chris Bulley of Shippensburg, 5-5, 2-0 in overtime. He raised his record to 19-12.
Shawn Smith (165, So., Unityville, Pa./Hughesville) triggered the 41-3 win over Shippensburg by pinning a namesake, Ryan Smith in 4:44 of the opening match. Dan Madonna (184, Sr., Springfield, Pa./Springfield) also had a pin later in the match over Nick Hensley in 2:10.

The Warriors' 4 x 400-meter relay team blazed to a school record 3:55.38 in winning the event at the Fordham-St. John's Invitational II in the New York Armory Friday night. It was sixth best time by an NCAA Division II team this season.
Jen Eye (So., Aristes, Pa./North Schuylkill) led off with a 60.7 leg followed by Cheryl Griffin (Sr., Walden, N.Y./Valley Central), 58.8, and Angela Gray (Fr., Jersey City, N.J./ Ferris) 58.5. Shavanna Ross (Sr., Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) then brought it home with a 57.5 finish. The team won by four seconds over runner-up LaSalle, 3:59.04. A total of 14 schools entered relay teams in the meet.
The same quartet had broken four minutes for the first time with a record 3:59.08 in winning the event at ESU's Dick DeSchriver Invitational the previous Sunday. All four runners improved their times with Gray cutting 1 9/10th seconds, Ross 9/10th of a second, and both Griffin and Eye 5/10th of a second.
Ross shattered her own school mark in finishing second in the 400-meter dash in the Fordham-St. John's meet in 57.77. Her old mark was 58.63 set last season. She was beaten by Sheree Duval of Rider, who finished in 57.61. Griffin was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.32.
Christel Hibbard (Jr., Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) placed third in the 3,000-meter run at the Bucknell Winter Classic Saturday with a time of 10:36.91.

Mike Newhard (Fr., Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) leaped over the bar at 6-5 to win the high jump competition at the Bucknell Winter Classic Saturday. It was his second victory in seven days as he had won the high jump in ESU's Dick DeSchriver Invitational the previous Sunday with a meet-record leap of 6-9 1/4.
The Warriors' Dan Garibaldi (Jr., Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) was sixth in the 400-meter dash at 51.58 at Bucknell while Mark Stinson (So., Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) was sixth in the 55-meter dash in 6.69.
