The Warriors will close first-semester home basketball action in a pair of single games this week. The men's team will play host to Felician Thursday while the women's team will entertain Pace Saturday. Both contests will start at 7 p.m. in the LeRoy J. Koehler Fieldhouse.

 

Men's Basketball (4-3)

Guard Juwan Justice (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) and point guard R.C. Kehoe (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) made the All-Tournament team as the Warriors finished second in the 36th Rotary Pocono Classic.

Justice scored 37 points in two tournament games with 20 in a 67-62 first round win over New Haven and 17 in a 91-61 championship game loss to St. Anselm. Kehoe had an outstanding game against New Haven with ten assists and five three-pointers for 15 points.

Forward Shahad Abdur-Rahkman (So., Allentown, Pa./William Allen) scored 18 points and center Mike Collins (So., Morrisville, Pa./Pennsbury) grabbed ten rebounds against New Haven.

Center Waleed Driscoll (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) saw his first extensive action of the season, playing 15 minutes against St. Anselm and scoring 11 points on three for three shooting from the floor and five of seven from the foul line.

Earlier in the week, the Warriors bowed to Shippensburg, 72-65. Rahkman scored 13 points and Justice and forward Rob Georges (Fr., Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) 11 apiece.

Women's Basketball (2-5)

Forward Kelly Hutchison (Sr., Reading, Pa./Exeter) made the Rotary Pocono Classic All-Tournament team for the second straight year after scoring 31 points and grabbing 19 rebounds in two tourney games.

Hutchison had 15 points and nine rebounds in a 66-61 consolation victory over Longwood after tallying 16 points and pulling down ten boards in a 58-42 first-round loss to Bowie State.

Guard Stephanie Kuhn (Sr., Columbia, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) scored 15 points, making five of six shots from the floor, in the upset win over Longwood, which had won 20 games last season and was 4-2 going into the contest.

Two newcomers, guard Shelly Garlach (Fr., Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and center Vanessa Kraft (Fr., Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) also were stars in the win over Longwood. Garlach contributed 13 points, including three three-pointers, and Kraft had ten points and seven rebounds.

Wrestling (3-4)

Kevin Rake (133, So., Mountainhome, Pa./Pocono Mountain) and Brad Kleckner (141, Jr., Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) both won three of four matches for the Warriors last week.

Rake defeated Michael Quiroga of Army, 6-2, in a dual match and then downed Jason Curolo of Sacred Heart, 6-2, and pinned Tim Van Dusen of Eastern Michigan in 1:10, after being pinned by Steve Popovirch of Columbia in 1:28 of the Binghamton Duals. His record is 5-3.

Kleckner won a major over Dave Ford of Army, 13-5. In the Binghamton Duals, he defeated John Valladares of Columbia, 9-2, and Greg Ruggiero of Sacred Heart, 9-5, before being pinned by Darnell Ruffin of Eastern Michigan in 5:18. He is now 4-2.

Dan Roy (174, Jr., West Belmar, N.J./Wall) and Marc Bauknecht (285, Sr., Cheshire, Ct., Holy Cross) each won two matches in the Binghamton Duals. Bauknecht got a pin and a major and raised his record to 8-4 which includes three pins.

Women's Swimming (3-1)

Jamie Miller (Jr., Northampton, Pa./Northampton) broke the school record in the 200-yard individual medley, won two other events and swam on the winning medley relay team as the Warriors beat Millersville in their final first-semester meet. The team is now 3-1.

Miller stroked to a time of 2:17.85 in the 200 IM, breaking the record of 2:18.61 set by Sue Fay in 1987. She also won the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:17.85 and the 100 butterfly in 1:01.98.

She combined with Heather Clouser (Jr., Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing), Mikaela Thorne (Fr., Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and Erin Kowalik (Sr., Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) on a 200-yard medley relay team which was first in 1:56.01.

Kowalik was a double winner in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.09 and the 100 freestyle in 54.41, both her season best times. Clouser captured the 100 backstroke in 1:03.85 and the 200 back in 2:16.22. Donna Gebhard (Sr., Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) was first in the 50 freestyle in 25.85.

The Warriors also won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a team of Gebhard, Maribeth Kenny (So., Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Kowalik and Karen Scott (So., Berwick, Pa./Berwick) in 1:43.57.

Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field (0-0)

Cheryl Griffin (Sr., Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) won two both sprints and led the 4 x 400-meter relay team to a school record in the Bucknell Invitational Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.

Griffin blazed to victory in the 55-meter dash in 7.26 and the 200 dash in 25.73. She ran a 59.4 leg on the relay team which placed second in 4:02.60, best ever at the school. Other runners were Jackie Babbini (So., Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park), 62.2; Angela Gray (Fr., Jersey City, N.J./Ferris), 60.2, and Shavanna Ross (Sr., Center Valley, Pa./William Allen), 60.4. The old school mark was 4:02.99 set last season.

Gray took the 400-meter dash in 60.15. Other ESU individual winners were Quanette Jester (Sr., Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) in the triple jump, 36-11 1/2, and Mike Newhard (Fr., Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) in the high jump, 6-5.

The women's 4 x 800-meter relay team of Heather Bjorndahl (Jr., Coram, N.Y./ Longwood), Melissa Werner (Jr., Reading, Pa./ Exeter), Brooke Garman (Jr., Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) and Christel Hibbard (Jr., Springville, Pa./Elk Lake) finished first in 10:22.47.

The men's 4 x 800-meter relay of Aaron Roderick (Fr., Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh), Jim Dawson (Fr., Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Glenn Kercher (Fr., Exeter, Pa./Exeter) and Tom Jackson (Fr., Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was second in 8:51.56.

Placing third were Jester in the high jump, 5-2 1/4; Becky Fitz (So., Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) in the long jump, 17-5 1/4; Monica Shelling (Fr., Washington, N.J./Warren Hills), 1,000 meters, 3:24.66; Ross, 500, 1:19.69, Nick Boehmer (Jr., Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock), 400, 53.22; and Jackson, 1,000, 2:41.66.

In the team scoring, the ESU women were second with 111 points to Bucknell's 212 points in a six-team field. The Warrior men finished third of six schools with 82 points behind Bucknell, 244, and St. Francis, Pa., 82.
