Saturday/Sunday - W-M Basketball vs. Clarion, Lock Haven, 1 & 3 p.m.

The Warriors will play a pair of home afternoon basketball doubleheaders against PSAC Western Division opponents Clarion Saturday and Lock Haven Sunday. The women's games will begin at 1 p.m. with the men's contests at 3 p.m.

 

Men's Basketball (6-5, 0-0 PSAC Eastern Division)

Shahad Abdur-Rahkman (So., Allentown, Pa./William Allen) scored 37 points in the two games, but the Warriors ran into two hot-shooting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division teams and dropped a pair of weekend games.

Rahkman tallied 20 points in an 82-70 loss to California, Pa. The Vulcans shot 52 percent from the floor (23 for 44). He then led the team with 17 points in a 106-68 defeat to IUP. The Indians made 62 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half (16 for 26) to break the game open.

Juwan Justice (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored 14 points against California, but then ran into foul trouble in the IUP game and finished with only seven points, ending his seven-game double digit scoring streak.

R.C. Kehoe (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored 12 points and Wayne Bishop (Fr., Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) 11 points against IUP.

Women's Basketball (2-9, 0-0 PSAC Eastern Division)

Guard Megan Ross (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) turned in two strong back-to-back games, but the Warriors bowed twice on a weekend trip to Western Pennsylvania.

Ross scored 17 points in an 84-56 loss to California, Pa. and then tallied 18 points in an 82-52 defeat at IUP. She was 9 for 22 from the floor, including four three-pointers, and 13 for 15 from the foul line in the two games.

Forward Kelly Hutchison (Sr., Reading, Pa./Exeter) extended her double-figure scoring streak to eight straight games with 14 points against California and 15 against IUP. She is averaging a team-leading 13.2 points per game.

Wrestling (3-8)

Last Week's Results: #Bucknell (H) 10-28L. #EIWA opponent

Marc Bauknecht (285, Sr., Cheshire, Ct./Holy Cross) and Kevin Rake (133, So., Mountainhome, Pa./Pocono Mountain) each won major decisions, but the Warriors dropped a 28-10 match to Bucknell last Saturday.

Bauknecht trounced Carl Perrone, 10-0, with a takedown a three-point near fall in the first period, a reversal in the second, a takedown in the third and more than five minutes of riding time. He raised his record to 12-8 which includes five pins and two major decisions.

Rake handled Andrew Bernstein, 9-1, getting takedowns in all three period, a two-point near fall in the first period and four minutes of riding time. He evened his record at 8-8.

The Warriors' only other winner was Matt Dudeck (157, Sr., Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) with a 9-2 decision over Mike Saunders.

The Warriors competed in the 68th Wilkes Open Wrestling Tournament in late December. Dan Roy (174, Jr., West Belmar, N.J./Wall) reached the semi-finals, but then lost two matches and did not place in the top four.

Four other team members, Rake (133), Brad Kleckner (141, Jr., Pottsville, Pa./ Pottsville), Scott Desmond (141, So., Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Dudeck all reached the fifth round of consolations before being eliminated. Kleckner had the big win, downing Nick Picarsic, a starter for Harvard, 4-2, in sudden-victory overtime. He then bowed, however, to Troy Minarovic of Lehigh, 5-2.
