Saturday, Feb. 2 - Third Annual DeSchriver Track Classic
ESU will play host to the third annual Dick DeSchriver Invitational Indoor Track and Field Classic Saturday, Feb. 2 in the Koehler Fieldhouse. Last year, more than 500 athletes from close to 40 colleges competed in the all-day meet.

The Warriors displayed a strong inside game with forward Tiffany Barnes (Jr., Middletown, Pa./Middletown) scoring 17 points and grabbing ten rebounds and center Vanessa Kraft (So., Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) adding 16 points and eight rebounds in a 75-71 loss at Mansfield.
Guard Megan Ross (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) contributed 11 points and hit three 3-pointers in the second half to keep ESU in contention. The Warriors rallied with an 11-point deficit to within a point, 72-71, with 1:03 remaining, but the Mounties wrapped it up from the foul line.

Mikaela Thorne (So., Elkins Park, Pa./Cheltenham) and Natalie Weingartner (Fr., Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) broke school records, but the Warriors lost to Bloomsburg, 143-119, in a home meet last Saturday.
Thorne bettered her own school record in winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09. 74. She had broken a 28-year-old school record in the event last year with a time of 1:09.95 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships.
Weingartner cracked her own school mark in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second straight week with a winning time of 2:34.08. Her old record was 2:34.35.
Thorne and Weingartner, swimming the backstroke, also combined with butterflier Jamie Miller (Sr., Northampton, Pa./Northampton) and freestyle sprinter Karen Scott (Jr., Berwick, Pa./Berwick) on the winning 200-yard medley relay team which was timed in 1:53.62.
The Warriors won three other events. Heather Clouser (Sr., Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) captured the 200 backstroke in 2:12.71; Weingartner won the 100 back in 1:01.40 and Scott was first in the 50 freestyle in 25.02.

The Warriors had five players scored in double figures, but still dropped a 89-75 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference basketball game to Mansfield last week.
Guard John Krimmel (Fr., State College, Pa./State College) was the leader with a career-high 20 points on 8 for 15 shooting from the floor, including two 3-pointers. Center Jon Kelley (So., West Chester, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) turned in his third straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Guard Wayne Bishop (So., Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt)came off the bench to score 17 points, his season best, while Juwan Justice (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) added 11 points and forward Rob Georges (So., Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had ten.
Justice suffered a separated left shoulder in the final minute of the game, however, and will be sidelined for two to four weeks. He is averaging a team-best 18.6 points per game.

Brandon Mihalko (165, Fr., Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) won three straight matches last week to raise his winning streak to six straight and his season record to 13-3. The Warriors were 2-1, beating Franklin and Marshall, 27-12, and Bucknell, 33-12, and losing to Drexel, 29-14.
Mihalko defeated Isaiah Hankel of Franklin and Marshall, 8-3; edged Carl Schmidt of Drexel, 10-7, with a takedown with 30 seconds remaining and won a technical fall over Mike Saunders of Bucknell, 25-10, in 4:08 with 12 takedowns, eight in the first period.
Brad Kleckner (141, Sr., Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) returned to full-time action after being sidelined with a rib injury for a month and scored two victories. He took charge immediately with 14 points in the first period in a 24-5 technical fall over Dan Stewart of Drexel in 5:34. He then handled Justin Hartrum of Bucknell, 9-4. His record is now 8-3.
Marc Bauknecht (285, Sr., Cheshire, Ct./Holy Cross) also had a perfect week with three wins. He edged Dennis Maguire of Franklin and Marshall, 2-0; won by forfeit over Drexel and beat Brian Falciglia of Bucknell, 9-4.

Outside hitter Dustin Wood (Jr., East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) and setter Chris James (Sr., Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayettesville-Manilus) both made the All-Tournament team in the season-opening D'Youville Tournament.
The Warriors finished second of four teams, defeating host D'Youville, 3-0; losing to tourney champion Findlay, 3-1, and beating Johnson and Wales, 3-1.
Wood made 18 kills, hit ..469 and had three service aces in the victory over Johnson and Wales. James made 108 assists and 11 kills in 16 attempts in three matches.
Middle blocker Jarrett Merkel (Jr., Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manilus) also had a big tournament, making 24 kills in 35 attempts with only four errors for a .571 hitting average. He also made 12 blocks, including six solo. Middle blocker Mike Collins (Sr., Morrisville, Pa./Pennsburg) made a team-high 13 blocks.
