Jeremy Sluyter (125) will be seeking to make the finals for the fourth straight year in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships at Navy this weekend. A total of 29 wrestlers will qualify for the NCAA Championships March 16-18.

 

Men’s Basketball (6-20, 4-8 PSAC Eastern Division)

Guard R.C. Kehoe (Jr., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored 67 points and hit on 19 three-pointers in three games, but the Warriors dropped decisions to Binghamton, West Chester in overtime for the second time and Pitt-Johnstown by two points.

Kehoe scored 22 points with six three-pointers against both Binghamton and West Chester. He then had 23 points with seven 'threes' in the Pitt-Johnstown game. He shot 45 percent (19-42) from the behind the arc for the week and also had 13 assists, ten steals and ten rebounds.

Center Quincy Henderson (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter) closed his career with two of his best performances. He had a career-high 20 points on 8 for 10 shooting from the floor and 4 for 4 from the foul line and grabbed nine rebounds against Pitt-Johnstown. He had 14 points and eight boards against West Chester.

Forward Juwan Justice (So., Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) broke the school season record for three-pointers with two against Pitt-Johnstown. He finished with 67 'threes,' one more than Ro Trachtman made last season. Kehoe tied Trachtman with 66 three-pointers in the 17 games since he joined the team in January.

Forward Shahad Abdur Rahkman (Fr., Allentown, Pa./William Allen) closed an outstanding freshman season with a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds against Pitt-Johnstown. He finished with a team-leading 478 points, a school freshman record, in 26 games, for an average of 18.4 points per game. He also led the team in rebounding with 199 or 7.7 per contest.

Justice was second in scoring with 405 points for a 15.6-point average. He also had a double-double in the finale against Pitt-Johnstown with 14 points and 12 rebounds. He scored in double figures in the team's last 18 games.

Kehoe averaged 17.1 points with 290 points in 17 games and was the team leader in assists with 112 for an average of 6.6 per contest.

The Warriors suffered six losses, two last week, by three or less points or in overtime.

 

Men's Volleyball (3-6, 3-2 EIVA Hay Division)

Last Week's Results: *St. Francis, Pa. (A) 8-15, 15-9, 15-10, 14-16, 15-13W, *Queens (H) 15-12, 8-15, 15-4, 9-15, 10-15L. *EIVA Hay Division match.

The Warriors won one five-game match and lost another in Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Hay Division action last week.

Tom Shaver (Jr., Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) made 19 kills and hit .394 and Steve Shanabrook (Sr., York, Pa./West York) had 16 kills and nine blocks and hit .429 in a 3-2 win over St. Francis, Pa.

Casey Tomlinson (Jr., Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and Mike Messinger (So., Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) each added 11 kills with Messinger also contributing a team-high eight digs. Brian Bucher (Sr., Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) had 63 assists.

Later in the week, the Warriors bowed to division-leading Queens, 3-2, with the leaders again Shaver with 16 kills and Shanabrook with 16 blocks. Dustin Wood (Sr., East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) made 12 kills. Bill Roth (Sr., Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) was the team's defensive leader with nine digs.

Women’s Basketball (11-15, 3-9 PSAC East)

The Warriors closed their season with a 67-49 loss at West Chester. The team finished with an 11-15 record, an improvement over last year's final 9-17 mark.

Forward Shannon Schwilk (Sr., Ephrata, Pa./Conestoga Valley) had a big game in her career finale with 21 points. She made ten of 18 shots from the floor, including one three-pointer. She finished the season with 391 points for an average of 15.0 points per game. She had a career total of 1,026 points, ninth highest in the school's history.

Point guard Marie Schlegel (Sr., Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) made four assists against West Chester to give her a season total of 166 assists, second best at the school to Stacy Perryman's record 170 assists in 1995-96. Schlegel finished her career with 435 assists, also second to Perryman's school-record 607.

 

Men's Indoor Track and Field

Last Week's Results: Koehler Classic (H) No Team Scoring

Pete Sarro (Sr., Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) won the 500-meter dash in 1:07.25 for the Warriors' only win in the men's division of the highly-competitive Koehler Indoor Track and Field Classic.

ESU's Mark Stinson (Fr., Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) was second in the long jump at 20-1 while Tom Haggerty (Jr., Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) was runner-up in the weight throw at 45-1 1/2.

The men's 4 x 200-meter relay team of Stinson, Dan Garabaldi (So., Toms River, N.J./Toms River East), Joe Van Soest (So., Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) and Steve Gambone (Fr., Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) was second in 1:33.03.

Shawn Strohm (Sr., Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) had his best ever in finishing third in the 800-meter run in 1:56.66. Brad Fees (Fr., Port Carbon, Pa./Pottsville) had his best indoor leap in the high jump in finishing third in 6-5.

Also placing third was Damien Deane (Fr., Budd Lake, N.J./ Mount Olive) in the shot put at 45-11.

Women's Indoor Track and Field

Last Week's Results: Koehler Classic (H) No Team Scoring

Shavanna Ross (Jr., Center Valley, Pa./William Allen) won one event and set a school record in another as she had the Warriors' top performance in the Koehler Indoor Track and Field Classic Sunday.

Ross soared over the bar at a career-best 5-6 1/2 to win the high jump. She also placed third in the 400-meter dash in a school-record 58.63, breaking the old mark of 59.73 set by Michelle Cole in 1993. She bettered the provisional qualifying standards in both events for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships March 3-4 in Boston.

Jenelle Strine (Sr., Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) also set a school record in winning the weight throw at 48-11 1/4, improving on her own mark of 48-7 1/2.

Cheryl Griffin (Jr., Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) blazed to victory in the 55-meter dash in 7.23. She also combined with Jackie Babbini (Fr., Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park), Becky Fitz (Fr., Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) and Diane Portzline (Fr., Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) on a 4 x 200-meter relay team which finished first in 1:47.19.

Heather Bjorndahl (So., Coram, N.Y./Longwood) captured the 1,000-meter run in 3:08.62 while Cindy Dillon (Sr., Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland Central) was second in the mile run in 5:23.43.

Also placing second were Quanette Jester (Jr., Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) in the high jump, 5-5, and Babbini in the 500 dash, 1:20.30.

Third-place finishers were Kelli Strickler (So., Stowe, Pa./Pottsgrove), high jump, 5-3; and Jenn Grube (Jr., Easton, Pa./Wilson), weight throw, 41-9 1/4.
