Last Week's Results: Shepherd (H) 35-28W OT

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behind 14-0, the unbeaten ESU football team scored on their first four possessions of the second half and went on to defeat nationally-ranked Shepherd, 35-28, in overtime. The Warriors are now 4-0, their best start since 1976. Shepherd, ranked 15th in last week's national poll, had beaten ESU, 33-27, in double overtime last year.

Quarterback Jeremy Palm (Jr., West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) completed two touchdown passes of three yards to wide receiver John Jeffries (Fr., Central Square, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) and then seven yards to wide receiver Mike Patrick (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Strouds-burg) which put ESU ahead for the first time, 21-20. Palm also scored on a one-yard sneak which increased the lead to 28-20 with 2:25 remaining.

Shepherd came back, however, and tied the game with 42 seconds remaining in regulation on a 21-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion pass to send the game into overtime.

In the overtime, Palm took his team into the endzone in four plays. He ran 12 yards to the Shepherd 13-yard line. Tailback Andre Castiglioni (Jr., Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) then carried twice for eight and three yards and tailback Nate Pendry (Fr., Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) took it across from the two.

Shepherd failed to get a first down on its overtime possession. A second-and-five run was stopped for no gain by tackle Dustin Barno (So., Easton, Pa./Easton) and linebacker Rich Butcofski (Sr., Shavertown, Pa./Dallas), a third down pass was knocked down by cornerback Nick Beisker (So., Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and the receiver on a fourth down pass was tackled in the flat for no gain by safety Jason Zinn (Sr., Hanover, Pa./South Western).

Palm completed 10 of 16 passes for 118 yards in the second half after going only 2 for 7 for 33 yards in the first half. He also ran 12 times for another 79 yards. Patrick made five receptions in the game for 83 yards and Jeffries five for 38 yards.

Castigliani racked up his fourth straight 100-yard game with 160 yards on 26 carries, includ-ing a 15-yard touchdown run. He is averaging 147.5 yards per game. Pendry picked up 63 yards on 14 carries and also returned the second-half kickoff 45 yards to start the team's comeback.

The offense piled up 302 yards rushing behind the blocking of fullback A.J. Oliveri (So., Pittston, Pa./Pittston), tackles Dan Bratton (Jr., Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) and Mike Serafin (Jr., Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin), guards Jim Sodano (Jr., Madison, N.J./ Bayley-Ellard) and Shepard Alston (Sr., Newark, N.J./Malcomb Shabazz) and center Joe Burton (So., Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore). The six shared the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week award.

The rushing yardage was the most by the team in six years since a 315-yard performance against Southern Connecticut in 1994.
