Football (4-4, 1-3 PSAC)

Last Week's Results: Shippensburg (H) 14-17L, OT *PSAC Eastern Division game

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another home game, another overtime thriller. The Warriors played their third overtime game at home this season, bowing to Shippensburg, 17-14. Earlier, they had beaten Shepherd, 35-28, and lost to Millersville, 33-26, both in overtime. The fourth home game also went down to the wire with Kutztown edging ESU, 17-16.

Saturday's game was decided when Shippensburg's Craig Lough booted a 33-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime. The Warriors called on Mike Berry (Sr., Clarks Summit, Pa./Miami-Southridge, Fla.) for a game-tying 35-yard field goal, but the center snap was low and Berry's kick never got any height and was blocked.

The Red Raiders had taken a 14-0 lead early in the fourth quarter when the Warriors stormed back to tie the game. A 45-yard pass from quarterback Geoff Brobst (Jr., Fern Dale, Pa./Hazleton Area) to wide receiver Mike Patrick (Sr., East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) ignited the first drive going and then tailback Andre Castiglioni (Jr., Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) scored the team's first touchdown on a 19-yard run.

On the ensuing kickoff, linebacker Jason Zinn (Sr., Hanover, Pa./South Western) hit the returner, causing a fumble which teammate Pat Good (So., Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) recovered on the SU 49-yard line. Castgiolioni put the team into scoring range with a 38-yard run and fullback Jason Wimmer (So., Quakertown, Pa./Palisades) took it across from the one.

Castiglioni finished with 152 yards on 30 carries which was his fifth 100-yard game of the season, tying a school record set by Pete Radocha in 1976 and matched by Stewart Ford in 1997 and Andre Myers in 1998. The ESU junior now has a season total of 996 yards and is range of the school single-season record of 1,109 yards set by Ford in 1997.

Tackle Dan Bratton (Jr., Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was the team's most effective offensive lineman, scoring 86 percent in the film evaluations.

The ESU defense held Shippensburg to a single touchdown on a 43-yard pass. The Red Raiders' other score came when they recovered an ESU fumbled lateral in the end zone.

Linebacker Kevin Nagle (Gr., Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) hit double-digit tackles for the seventh time in eight games with 11, including eight first-hits and one tackle for loss. He also scored a team-high 89 percent in the film evaluations.

Cornerback Jeremy Brown (So., Centreville, Va./Centreville) made ten tackles with two for losses and also had an interception. End Adam DeAngelo (So., East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg) made two sacks, giving him a team-high eight for the season. Zinn had an interception and a sack and tackle David Dean (Fr., Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) made an interception on a pass deflected by end Rich Kane (So., Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore).
