ESU in Clarion Tournament

CLARION – Outside hitter April Mellott made the All-Tournament team as East Stroudsburg University finished second in the Clarion Women’s Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Warriors bowed to host Clarion, 15-6, 6-15, 15-8, 15-7, in the championship match despite Mellott's 15 kills and Ashleigh Reinert's 34 assists.

Both teams had finished 3-1 in pool play. In matches earlier Saturday, ESU lost to LIU-Southampton, 15-11, 15-11, 7-15, 15-9, but then defeated Clarion in their first meeting 6-15, 16-14, 15-11, and 15-6, as Mellott made 16 kills, and Shepherd, 12-15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-10, with Jessica Nourse the leader with 19 kills. Friday night, ESU had downed Millersville, 3-1.

The Warriors are now 9-9 and will play host to Kutztown for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division match Tuesday at 7 p.m.
