Wyomissing, Pa. - Two-year Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference place-winner in the backstroke . . . holds school record of 1.02.08 in the 100 backstroke,

Sophomore Year - Placed in conference for second straight year with 12th-place finish in 100-yard backstroke . . . swam 2:02.80 leadoff leg in helping 800-yard freestyle relay team to school record of 8:14.76 in conference me et . . . placed third in 100-yard backstroke in Kutztown Invitational . . . double winner in meets against St. Rose and Millersville . . . had team's top times in the 200, 500 and 1000-yard freestyles.

Freshman Year - Set school record in 100-yard backstroke with time of 1:02.08 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships . . . placed ninth in event . . . turned in team's best times in 50 and 100 backstroke and 200, 500 and 1,000 freestyle events.

Background - Placed fourth in 100 back and sixth in 200 freestyle in PIAA district championships for Wyomissing Area High School . . . set numerous school records . . . starred in cross country and soccer . . . named school’s outstanding senior athlete . . . PSAC Scholar-Athlete majoring in Athletic Training and Sports Medicine.

Freestyle Sprints, Senior

Spring City, Pa. - Three-year veteran sprinter . . . has won 50-yard freestyle in numerous meets during career.

Junior Year - Swam third leg of 24.99 on 200-yard freestyle relay team which placed fifth in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference meet . . . won 50 free in three dual meets . . . tied for first place in 50 in triangular mee t against Bloomsburg and Lock Haven.

Sophomore Year - won Coach's Award for overall contributions to squad . . . posted team's best time in the 50 free of 25.97 . . . undefeated in 50 free in second-semester dual meets . . . named ESU Athlete of the

Week after three wins in early January.

Freshman Year - Member of 400 freestyle relay team which placed third in Kutztown Invitational . . . team's only winner in meet against Bloomsburg with first in 50 freestyle . . . also first in 50 free in two other meets.

Background - Gained All-State honors as sprinter and relay swimmer for Owen J. Roberts High School . . . won All-League and All-District 1 honors . . . finished in top 20 in the PIAA state meet in the freestyle sprints . . . played basketball . . . majoring in Recreation and Leisure Services.

Freestyle Sprints, Senior

Red Lion, Pa. - Member of Warriors' 200-yard freestyle relay which placed fifth in conference meet . . . won Coaches' Award for overall contributions to squad . . . placed sixth in 50 free in Kutztown Invitational . . . double w inner in dual meet against St. Rose.

Background - Competed one and a half years at Ithaca . . . placed seventh in 100-yard free in New York State Championships . . . set four school sprint records for Red Lion High School . . . finished third in York County . . . qualified for district championships . . . PSAC Scholar-Athlete in Recreation and Leisure Services.

 

Jamie Miller

Butterfly, Individual Medley, Junior

Northampton, Pa. - Team's leading scorer in dual meets the last two years.

Sophomore Year - Swam on 800-yard freestyle relay team which shattered the school record with a time of 8:14.76 . . . placed in three events in Kutztown Invitational with fourth in 100 butterfly and fifths in 200 fly and 200 individual medley . . . had team's best times in the breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley.

Freshman Year - Named team's outstanding swimmer . . . had 20 first-place finishes and scored 197 1/2 points in dual meets . . . won three events and set pool record of 2:20.77 in the 200 butterfly in a win over Millersville . . . .qualified for ECAC Open Swimming Championships in the butterfly but did not place.

Background - Placed 11th in PIAA championships for Northampton High School in 100-yard butterfly as senior . . . placed second in 100 fly in PIAA districts in school record-time of 1:00.06 . . . finished fifth in districts in 200 individual medley . . . named Mountain Valley Conference's outstanding female swimmer.

Finished 13th in state meet and fourth in districts in 100 fly as junior . . . led team to four straight conference titles . . . majoring in Recreation and Leisure Services.

 

Karen Scott

Freestyle, Sophomore

Berwick, Pa. - Enjoyed outstanding freshman season . . . became school's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference swimming finalist in six years . . . placed sixth in 50-yard freestyle in conference championships at Indiana Univ ersity . . . swam 25.23 in the champ-ionship race after going season-best 25.20 in the preliminaries.

Anchored 200-yard freestyle relay team which placed fifth in PSAC Championships which was the school's best finish in a relay since 1987 . . . swam team's fastest leg at 24.72.

Double winner in freestyle sprints against Scranton and posted team season-best time of 56.80 in 100 free . . . won 50 free in 26.29 in triangular meet against Kutztown and Binghamton . . . tied for first in 50 free in tri meet agai nst Bloomsburg and Lock Haven.

Background - Won district championship in 50 freestyle as a senior for Berwick High School . . . qualified for the PIAA state championships . . . anchored district-winning relay teams . . . named school's outstanding swimmer four straight years . . . majoring in Exercise Physiology.

 

Mikaela Thorne

Breaststroke, Freshman

Elkins Park, Pa. - Highly-regarded newcomer who is counted on to be team's top breaststroker . . . should threaten school record in the 100 breast . . . will swim on what should be an improved medley relay team.

Background - Made All-League team three years at Cheltenham High School . . . placed eighth in PIAA district meet in breaststroke . . . made All-League in track and field . . . finished second in shot put and fourth in di scus and fourth as a member of 4 x 100 relay at the Suburban track and field meet . . . majoring in Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification.
