ESU Swimming in PSAC Championships
CLARION – East Stroudsburg University finished fifth in both relays and stood fifth of 12 schools in the team standings after the first day of competition in the three-day Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming Championships Thursday night at Clarion University.
The Warriors were fifth in the 400-yard medley relay in a season-best time of 4:09.57 with a team of Natalie Weingartner, Mikaela Thorne, Jamie Miller and Karen Scott. They also were fifth in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:43.82 with a quartet of Linzi Reese, Thorne, Weingartner and Scott.
Scott was the team’s lone place-winner in the three individual events with a 12th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.96. She had been 12th in the same event last year and sixth as a freshman.
In the team standings, defending champion West Chester took the lead with 183 points followed by host Clarion 129, Bloomsburg 83, Shippensburg 72 and ESU 41. Slippery Rock 32, Millersville and Kutztown 24, IUP 21, Lock Haven 18, Edinboro 6 and Mansfield 0 completed the field.
