ESU in Kutztown Swimming Invitational

KUTZTOWN - Jamie Miller captured the 100-yard butterfly, was second in both the 200 individual medley and the 200 butterfly and swam on a record-breaking relay team as East Stroudsburg University finished third of eight schools in the Kutztown Swimming Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Host Kutztown won the event with 589 points with Salisbury State second with 511 and ESU next with 491.

Miller turned in a winning time of 1.02.13 in the 100 fly. Her other times were 2:19.67 in the 200 fly and 2:19.08 in the 200 IM. She combined with Heather Clouser, Mikeala Thorne and Erin Kowalik on a 400-yard medley relay team which won its event in a school-record time of 4:12.55. The old school mark was 4:13.77 set in 1999.

Thorne was second in both the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.38 and the 200 breast in a season-best 2:41.10 while Clouser was runner-up in 100 backstroke in 1:03.80, her best this year, and the 200 back in 2:17.25.

Karen Scott was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.61 with teammates Erin Kowalik third in 25.68. Also placing in the top three were Maribeth Kenny, second in the 1,650-yard freestyle, 19:43.0, Trish Dixon, third in the 100 breaststroke, 1:14.91; Bridget Flack, third in the 1,650 freestyle, 19:51.0.

The Warriors captured the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.20 with a team of Clouser, Thorne, Miller and Scott.

Placing second were the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kowalik, Donna Gebhard, Scott and Thorne in 1:43.33 and the 800 freestyle relay team of Miller, Flack, Clouser and Kowalik in 8:23.17.
