ESU Swimming in Mansfield Relays
MANSFIELD - East Stroudsburg University won four events and placed second of five teams in the season-opening Mansfield Women's Swimming Relays Saturday.
Mansfield won the meet with 112 points with ESU scoring 108, Lock Haven and Millersville both 68, and Juniata 56.
ESU junior Jamie Miller and freshman Mikaela Thorne each swam on three of the winning relays. Miller and Thorne combined with Trish Dixon to win the 3 x 100-yard breaststroke relay in a time of 3:42.47. Both Thorne with a split of 1:11.37 and Miller, 1:14, qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships in the 100 breast.
Miller and Thorne also were joined by Heather Clouser and Karen Scott on the championship 400-yard medley team which finished in 4:15.97. Clouser led off with a 1:04.30 backstroke leg which qualified her for the conference meet.
The other winning relays were the 800 freestyle with a team of Miller, Erin Kowalik, Maribeth Kenny and Clouser in 8:29.18 and the 200-yard freestyle with Donna Gebhard, Thorne, Kowalik and Scott.
Other ESU conference qualifiers were Miller in the 100-yard butterfly, 1:00.08, and Kowalik, 50-yard freestyle, 25.75, and Gebhard, 50 free, 26.04.
