ESU-LIU Southampton Women's Soccer
EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Justina Woolf scored a 'hat trick,' the third of her career, as East Stroudsburg University edged LIU-Southampton, 3-2, in a women's soccer game Sunday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
With the score tied, 2-2, Woolf chipped in the game-winner with 22:16 remaining. The game was battle between Woolf and Southampton's Asa Birgerdotter from Stockholm, Sweden, who scored twice.
Birgerdotter put the Seahawks ahead after 8:36 off a pass from Kristen Fern. Woolf then connected for a pair of goals at 8:37 and 15:01 as she took a cross from Julia Byrnes for the first and a header from Sarah Barnard for the second.
The score remaining 2-1 for 45 minutes before Birgerdotter tied the game with 30:20 to play with Michelle Rita credited with an assist.
The win was ESU's first after two losses. Woolf, a three-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference selection who now has 44 career goals, had been shut out in the first two games. Southampton is now 1-1.
