ESU-LIU Southampton Women's Soccer
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. - Gwen Gemberling scored two goals as East Stroudsburg University won its first women's soccer game of the season Wednesday by beating LIU-Southampton, 3-1.
The Warriors are now 1-2 and will open their home season against Felician Saturday at 12 noon at Eiler-Martin Stadium. It was the Colonials' season opener.
Gemberling scored both her goals in the first half, the first off a cross from Lauren DeRewal and the second following a pass from Tabby Reed. The sophomore from Mechanicsburg now has three goals in the team's three games.
After Southampton cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second half, ESU's Justina Woolf booted in an insurance for her first score of the year. She took a cross from Crystal Kistler and one-timed the ball past goalie Tiffany Hughes.
Lindsay Vandergrist and Angela Scolaro split the Warriors' goalie assignment, each making two saves.
