ESU-Stonehill Women's Soccer

NORTH EASTON, Ma. - Holly Soper scored the game's only goal 11:39 into an overtime period to give nationally-ranked and host Stonehill College a 1-0 women's soccer victory over East Stroudsburg University in the first round of the Lady Chieftain Kickoff Classic Saturday.

Soper volleyed a shot into the upper left corner from 12 yards out following a deflection off a Stonehill corner kick.

It was a close game throughout with the Chieftains, who were ranked 23rd in the pre-season NCAA Division II poll, having a slight edge in shots, 12-10. ESU goalie Liz Guinup kept the Warriors in contention with 11 saves while Stonehill's Kathy Neff made seven saves in posting her 17th career shutout.

The Warriors will return to tourament action today against Assumption at 2 p.m.
