ESU-Bloomsburg Women’s Soccer

EAST STROUDSBURG – Alea Balthaser and Renee Williams, two of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s top players, accounted for all the scoring as Bloomsburg downed East Stroudsburg, 3-0, in women’s soccer Wednesday.
Balthaser, the 2000 PSAC Player of the Year, scored two goals to give her 11 for the season. The senior from Hamburg also set a Bloomsburg school record with 137 career points on 52 goals and 33 assists. The old mark was 136 points accumulated by Christine Krebs from 1997-2000.
Williams contributed a goal, her tenth, and an assist. The junior from Larksville now has 95 points on 35 goals and 25 assists and may threaten the school mark next season.
The Huskies improved their record to 10-2-1 overall and 6-2 in the conference. They are in a five-way battle for the three PSAC playoff berths with Lock Haven, 8-0; Edinboro, 7-1-1; IUP, 6-1-1, and Slippery Rock, 6-2. Lock Haven was scheduled to play host to Slippery Rock Wednesday night.
ESU fell to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the conference. The Warriors’ next game will be against Slippery Rock Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of the annual Super Soccer Saturday promotion sponsored by the ESU Sport Management Club.
