ESU-Lock Haven Women's Soccer

 

EAST STROUDSBURG - Rebecca Nichols scored a pair of goals as Lock Haven, the nation's fifth-ranked NCAA Division II women's soccer team, defeated East Stroudsburg University, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Wednesday.

The Lady Eagles remained undefeated with a 10-0-2 overall record including a 5-0 PSAC mark. ESU dropped to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Naomi Clark put Lock Haven ahead after nine minutes with the only goal of the first half. She chipped a shot over goalie Lindsay Vandegrift's head after passes from Christa Cox and Kathleen Custer.

Nichols made it a 2-0 game three minutes into the second half, booting the ball into the lower left corner after taking a pass from Cox on a 2-on-1 break.

The Warriors scored their lone goal with 11 minutes gone in the half as Gwen Gemberling crossed the ball into the middle and Deirdre Durkin beat goalie Takiyah Thomas to the right side.

Nichols wrapped up the victory with just over ten minutes to play with her fifth goal of the season after a cross from Kristi Ward.

Lock Haven had an edge in shots, 9-5. Thomas made four saves while Vandegrift had six saves.
