ESU-Clarion Women's Soccer
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University out-shot Clarion 25-3 in a convincing 4-0 win in a PSAC women's soccer match Saturday afternoon.
Julie Byrnes scored the first goal of the day for the Warriors after only 1:30 of play. Byrnes put the ball into the net after a bad clearance by the Clarion defense, putting ESU up 1-0.
On a cross-pass from Jaime Mitchell, Gwen Gemberling shot over the goalkeeper's hands to put ESU up 2-0 in the 7th minute of play.
The final goal of the first half came at 23:24, as Kelly Gunther rebounded a missed shot by Justina Woolf that hit the crossbar, sending the Warriors into halftime up 3-0.
Katie Melcer scored the last goal of the day at 75:30 on a long shot off a pass from Sarah Barnard, ending the game at 4-0.
Goalies Lindsay Vandegrift and Christa Sandvig shared the shut out in goal.
ESU improved its record to 5-4 overall, 3-2 in the PSAC. The Warriors will play Kutztown home on Tuesday afternoon at 1p.m., looking to further improve upon their PSAC record. Clarion fell to 1-9 overall (0-4 PSAC).
