WR2-5
ESU-Seton Hall Wrestling
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Heavyweight Rich Koehler and 125-pounder Jeremy Sluyter won the first two matches for East Stroudsburg University, but Seton Hall captured the last eight weight classes to defeat the Warriors, 26-6, in wrestling Saturday.
Koehler decisioned Carlos Panfili, 9-4, for his 20th win with a takedown late in the first period and two takedowns in the second period. He raised his record to 20-4.
Sluyter, who is now ranked 18th in the Intermat national wrestling poll, beat David Ilaria, 8-5, to claim his 22nd victory against only five defeats. He took a 7-2 lead on a takedown and a two-point near fall in the second period. He was trying for a major and took a risky shot in the third period and Ilaria scored a takedown to make the score closer than the match actually was.
Seton Hall then won three one-pointers in the next four matches. The heart-breaker was at 133 pounds where Mark Siwek led all the way until the final ten seconds when Mike Settembrino took him down for a 4-3 victory.
The Pirates raised their record to 12-3. ESU is now 9-5.
