WR2-3
ESU-Millersville Wrestling
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University won the first four matches to take a 19-0 lead and held on to defeat Millersville, 22-16, in wrestling Thursday night in the Koehler Fieldhouse.
The win raised the Warriors' record to 9-4 and with only four dual matches remaining guaranteed the team a winning season under first-year coach Angelo Borzio. Millersville is now 3-4.
The match sent ESU top two wrestlers, heavyweight Rich Koehler and 125-pounder Jeremy Sluyter to the mat first and both scored major decisions.
Koehler had five takedowns and a reversal in easily handling Tyler Woolever, 14-6, to raise his record to 19-4. He had pinned Woolever in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships last weekend.
Sluyter, a newly-crowned PSAC champion, also had a repeat match against a conference opponent as he trounced Omar Porrata, 11-2, with a takedown in the second period and three more in the third. He had beaten Porrata, 3-1, in the first round of the PSAC tournament. His record is now 21-5.
Mark Siwek at 133 pounds then gave the Warriors a 13-0 lead with a 23-7 technical fall over Kris Hoff with the match ending in 6:51. He almost closed out Hoff immediately with two three-point near falls in the first minute of action.
Brad Kleckner made it four in a row for the team and became a member of the 20-win club with a 20-7 record by pinning Steve Harper in 2:08 of their 141-pound match. He also had pinned Harper in the conference tourney, but in the third period in 6:48.
The Warriors had only one winner in the last six matches, but that was all they needed as Dan Roy beat Craig Pequignot, 8-4, at 174 pounds. Roy had a takedowns in all three periods and a 1:44 riding time advantage.
