WILKES-BARRE Brad Kleckner (141) pinned Jason Hills in the final match as East Stroudsburg University trimmed Wilkes, 24-21, in wrestling Wednesday night.
With Wilkes ahead, 21-18, Kleckner needed extra points to give the Warriors the victory. He took Hills down three times before pinning him with 27 seconds left in the first period. It was his sixth pin of the season and raised his record to 22-8.
John Conte, a senior from Pocono Mountain High School, had given the Colonels their three-point lead by beating Mark Siwek, 8-4, at 133 pounds. Conte is now 29-1 and ranked seventh in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings.
The Warriors won five matches with Brian McTigue (197) also registering a pin and Tony Vitale (165), Dan Roy (174) and Rich Koehler (285) all scoring major decisions. Koehler is now 22-4.
ESUs top wrestler, Jeremy Sluyter, ranked 16th in the nation at 125 pounds, failed to make weight and Wilkes was given a forfeit victory.
