ESU-Wilkes Wrestling

EAST STROUDSBURG - Kevin Rake and Brad Kleckner scored back-to-back first period pins to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 37-6 wrestling victory over Wilkes University Tuesday night.

Rake took only 45 seconds to cradle Eli Shutt to his back in the 133-pound match. It was his sixth pin of the season and lifted his record to 14-12. Shutt was a substitute for Wilkes' top wrestler, unbeaten John Conte, who was held out of action because of a shoulder injury.

Kleckner needed 1:05 to pin Bryan Wech at 141 pounds with a front head lock. He raised his team-leading record to 18-9 which includes two pins.

Dan Roy (174) scored a technical fall and two other ESU wrestlers, Danny Gonzalez (125) and Marc Bauknecht (285) had major decisions.

Roy, now 19-15, handled Fritz Delva, 19-2 in 7:00, with four takedowns and three near falls.

Gonzalez trounced Dave Rudnick, 16-3, getting five takedowns and a three-point near fall, to even his record at 7-7. Bauknecht joined the team's 20 win club and improved his record to 20-12 with a 16-7 decision over Matt Zurn. He built up 3:36 riding time and scored a reversal and takedown in the third period for the major.

Other ESU winners were Louie DeLauro (149) and Matt Dudeck (157), both of whom scored seven-point victories, Shawn Smith (165) and Dan Madonna (184).

Smith registered a third-period takedown and a two-point near fall to win, 14-9 over one of Wilkes' top wrestlers, Steve Tornambe, who came in with a 23-9 record,

It was the final dual match for the Division I Warriors, who finished 6-13. Wilkes, a Division III school in the sport, is now 15-12.
