WR2-12

ESU-Shippensburg Wrestling

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University's three seniors, Jeremy Sluyter (125), Rich Koehler (285) and Tony Vitale (165) all scored victories in their final home match as the Warriors downed Shippensburg, 22-15, in wrestling Saturday night.

The Warriors raised their record to 10-5 with two away matches remaining at Wilkes Wednesday night and Lehigh Saturday afternoon. Shippensburg is now 7-9-2.

Sluyter took just over a minute to pin Jeff Putt in a rematch of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference finals. He countered a move by Putt, took him the mat and decked him with a front headlock in 1:11. The win raised his record to 23-5 with four pins.

Koehler also had a first-period pin as he turned Jon Cox to his back with a half nelson in 1:29. It was his team-leading seventh pin of the season and upped his record to 21-4.

Vitale narrowly missed also getting a pin, but had to settle for a three-point near fall in the final minute in a 6-1 victory over Andy Hull. The Warriors had two other winners, Brad Kleckner (141) on a 20-6 major decision over Nick Hoffmaster and Dan Roy (174) on a 10-3 win over Brad Beecher.
