ESU Wrestling in Wilkes Open

WILKES-BARRE - Angelo Borzio, East Stroudsburg University wrestling coach, finished second at 285 pounds in the Wilkes Open Wrestling Tournament Friday at Wilkes University.

Borzio, a former champion in the event, bowed in the finals to Kevin Herron of Missouri, 6-2. Herron scored an immediate takedown in the first period and a takedown in the final seconds of the match. The wrestlers traded reversals in the second period.

The ESU coach had beaten Jacob Lininger of Pittsburgh, 7-5, in the semi-finals.

In another semi-final match, the Warriors' Dan Roy (174) lost to Ted Dufresne of Lehigh, 3-1. Roy then bowed in the consolation semi-finals to Tom DeAngelo of Penn, 5-0, and did not place in the top four.

Four other ESU wrestlers, Kevin Rake (133), Brad Kleckner (141), Scott Desmond (141) and Matt Dudeck (3-1) all won matches in the fourth round of consolations, but were eliminated in the fifth round.

Kleckner had the big win, downing Nick Picarsic, a starter for Harvard, 4-2, in sudden-victory overtime. He then bowed, however, to Troy Minarovic of Lehigh, 5-2.

Rake, the former Pocono Mountain High School wrestler, defeated Jeremy Weller of Bucknell, 10-3, before losing to Mike May, unattached, 3-2.

The Warriors will have a week off before returning to action Saturday, Jan. 6th in a 7 p.m. home match against Bucknell.
