ESU Wrestling in Wilkes Open

WILKES-BARRE – Shawn Smith (184) reached the consolation quarter-finals for East Stroudsburg University’s furthest advance in the annual Wilkes Open Wrestling Tournament which ended Saturday.

Smith lost in the first round to Reggie Lee of Harvard, 8-4, and then won four straight matches over J. Brent Billet of Ohio State, 3-1; Chad Hoare of Bloomsburg, 8-7; Daniel Cook of Rutgers on a technical fall, 15-0, and Matt Benton, Pitt-Johnstown, 5-2. He was eliminated by Randy Stout of Cornell, 3-2.

The Warriors had two other wrestlers, Keith Kleckner (149) and Matt Dudeck (157) beaten in the fourth round of consolations. Kleckner won five matches, including two pins, while Dudeck scored three victories.
