ESU-Army Wrestling
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University won the first match and the last, but in between, it was all Army as the Black Knights rolled to a 31-7 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association victory over East Stroudsburg University Wednesday night.
The match started at 184 pounds and Shawn Smith got the Warriors got a fast start by winning a major decision over Justin Gorkowski, 13-3. He scored six takedowns, three in the first period, one in the second and two in the third and built up 2:46 riding time.
The final match at 174 and ESU's Dan Roy remained undefeated with his eighth straight win by beating Matt Bernard, 4-1. He rode Barnard the entire second period in forging a 2:13 riding point advantage and had an escape and takedown in the third period.
Army won the other eight matches with freshman sensation Phillip Simpson (141), who raised his record to 16-3, and Ron Schroeder (165) scoring pins.
The Black Knights are now 5-0 in duals while ESU fell to 2-2.
