ESU Wrestling/PSAC Championships
CLARION - East Stroudsburg University finished fifth of nine teams and had six place-winners in the 58th annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday at Clarion University.
The Warriors' top finishers were Matt Dudeck (157) and Marc Bauknecht (285), both of whom placed fourth.
Dudeck lost in the semi-finals to Ed Hockenberry of Bloomsburg, 10-2, but came back to beat Anthony Errera of Slippery Rock, 6-0, in the consolation semi-finals. He then bowed to Jason Gilligan of Lock Haven, 5-3, in the match for third place.
Bauknecht also bowed in the semis, being pinned by John Testa of Clarion in 1:22. He won his first consolation match over Chris Bulley of Shippensburg, 7-3, before being pinned by Craig Tefft of Lock Haven in 4:38 of theot third-place match.
Finishing fifth were Brad Kleckner (141), Dan Roy (174) and Dan Madonna (184). All won their final matches. Kleckner pinned Justin Haupt of Bloomsburg in 4:05; Roy defeated Adam Shawver of Slippery Rock, 10-5, and Madonna downed Brian McDonald of Millersville, 8-3.
Shawn Smith (165) placed sixth after having to medically forfeit his last two matches.
The Warriors scored 57 points to finish behind champion Lock Haven 153 1/2, Edinboro 126, Bloomsburg 119 and Clarion 100 1/2. The Bald Eagles won five titles including capturing the first four weight classes.
