ESU Wrestling/PSAC Championships

CLARION – East Stroudsburg University wrestlers Matt Dudeck (157) and Marc Bauknecht (285) advanced to the semi-finals of the 58th annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships at Clarion University Friday night.

Dudeck pinned John Ratki of Kutztown in 4:05 of their quarter-final round match while Bauknecht won by decision over Sam Holloway of Kutztown, 3-1.

The other eight ESU wrestlers all were eliminated from the championship flight, but seven are still alive in the consolations.

The Warriors’ Brad Kleckner (141), who placed third in the tournament last year, dropped a heart-breaker to Cory Ace of Edinboro, 9-8. Teammate Brad Washburn (149) also lost a close match, bowing to Dominic Surra of Clarion, 12-10, in sudden-victory overtime. Washburn then bowed in the first round of consolations to Ivan Hardnett of Millersville, 13-9.

Both of ESU’s lightweight wrestlers from Pocono Mountain High School were beaten. Danny Gonzalez (125) lost to Trap McCormack of Lock Haven on a major decision, 10-2, while Kevin Rake (133) was beaten by Rad Martinez of Clarion, 5-1.

Both Dan Roy (174) and Andy Sheaffer (197) won matches for ESU in the pigtail round. Ray pinned Aaron Telatovich of Shippensburg in 4:52 before being edged by Aaron Mitchell of Clarion, 2-1. Sheaffer pinned Matt Hildreth of Slippery Rock in 2:19, but then was pinned by David Shunamon of Edinboro in 1:54.

In other matches, the Warriors’ Sean Smith (165) lost by technical fall to Hunter Guenot of Bloomsburg, 16-1 in 7:00, and Dan Madonna (184) was pinned by Josh Millard of Lock Haven in 1:14.

Lock Haven leads the nine-team, two-day tournament with 73 points followed by Edinboro 60, Bloosmburg 42, Clarion 36 ˝, ESU 19, Kutztown 16, Millersville 14 1.2, Slippery Rock 14 and Shippensburg 6.
