ESU Wrestling/PSAC Championships

KUTZTOWN – East Stroudsburg University advanced five wrestlers into the semi-finals of the 59th annual Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships Friday night at Kutztown University’s Keystone Arena.

The Warriors were third of nine teams after the first day of competition with 39 ½ points. Edinboro led the field with 69 points with defending champion Lock Haven second with 63. Clarion, 37, and Bloomsburg, 25, completed the top five.

Advancing for the ESU team were Brad Kleckner (141), Keith Kleckner (149), Matt Dudeck (157), Brandon Mihalko (165) and Dan Roy (174). A sixth wrestler, Anthony Petrock (184) is still alive in the consolations.

Brad Kleckner had the most impressive day with a pair of pins over Stephen Stremple of Clarion in 4:00 and Joe Bentz of Kutztown in 4:36. Mihalko and Roy each won a pair of matches including a major decision. Keith Kleckner and Dudeck each had one victory with Dudeck scoring a pin.

Action will resume today at 11 a.m. with the semi-finals followed by two rounds of consolations. The championship matches for first, third and fifth places will be run simulaneously on three mats, starting at 6 p.m.

125 – Jon Clouser lost to Adam Bunting (Mi), 4-3; lost to Mike Collins (B), 10-4. Eliminated.

133 – Joey Camacho was pinned by Jason Gabrielson (Mi), 4:06; lost major to Kohlby O’Donnell (K), 12-2. Eliminated.

141 – Brad Kleckner (third seed) pinned Stephen Stremple (Cl), 4:00; pinned Joe Bentz (K), 4:36. Will wrestle second-seeded Chad Caros (Ed) in semi-finals.

149 – Keith Kleckner (fourth seed) won by default over Craig Kunsman (K), 5:50. Will wrestle top-seed James LaValle (LH) in semi-finals.

157 – Matt Dudeck (fourth seed) pinned Jason Cardillo (SR), 6:45. Will wrestle top-seeded JaMarr Billman (LH) in semi-finals.

165 – Brandon Mihalko (second seed) won major over Ryan Wasser (K), 16-7; dec. Craig Pequignot (Mi), 3-1. Will wrestle third-seeded Chris Haines (LH) in semi-finals.

174 – Dan Roy (third seed) won major over Aaron Telatovich (Sh), 15-1; dec. Nick Brumbaugh (K), 5-4. Will wrestle second-seed Ed Pawlak (LH) in semi-finals.

184 – Anthony Petrock lost to Chris Elphick (Ed), 3-1; dec. Ian Zearfaus, 11-6. Alive in

consolations.
