ESU-Mansfield Women's Basketball
MANSFIELD - Four East Stroudsburg University scored in double figures as the Warriors downed Mansfield, 70-61, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night.
Pam Helt led the ESU scorers with 16 points, the second highest total of her career, while Michele Pilenza contributed 14 points, Kelly Hutchison 12 and Vanessa Kraft ten.
Mansfield's Lynelle Mosley took game scoring honors with 24 points with Daima Thomas adding 11 points and Jennifer Nichols ten.
With the score tied at 27, the Warriors scored seven of the last nine points of the first half for a 34-29 lead. They held the margin the entire second half.
Helt sank a free throw for the go ahead point at 28-27 with 2:41 left in the half. Pilenza then hit a field goal, but Mosley matched it for the Mounties. Helt converted two more free throws and Heather Wolfe followed with a basket to end the half.
Mansfield (3-18, 2-5 PSAC) closed within one point twice in the second half at 42-41 and then 44-43. It was still a two-point game at 62-60 with 1:28 remaining, but Helt made a basket and the Warriors (5-16, 2-5 PSAC) then wrapped it up by sinking six free throws, two apiece by Helt, Megan Ross and Wolfe, in the final 37 seconds.
